Sierra Wireless LPWA Module Advantages

Ultra Low Power

Power consumption by our LPWA modules is as low as 1.8uA for PSM floor current, and 30uA for eDRX floor current.

Secure Element

Our LPWA products store security keys in a hardware-based secure element for an added layer of security.

Worldwide Bands

Our NB-IoT and LTE-M modules offer a wide selection of bands (up to 20) for scalability across the world.

High Transmit Power

Low-frequency and high transmit power (23dBm to 26dBm) ensure resilient connection even in challenging locations such as underground and remote areas.

A Quick Guide to LPWA Modules

LPWA modules connect IoT devices that need long battery life and low maintenance and offer fast data rates. Discover the advantages of cellular over proprietary technology and explore fascinating LTE-M and NB-IoT module use cases.

Frequently Asked Questions

Low Power Wide Area. It refers to low data rate, long range networking technologies that enable the transmission of sensor data from IoT devices with little board space and may be battery powered. The most prominent LPWA technologies are LTE Cat-M, NB -IoT (both are cellular), and LoRaWan. LPWA technologies are opening up new low-bandwidth IoT applications, including many industrial, smart-city, and agricultural applications.
A Cellular LPWA module is a module that supports LTE Cat-M and/or NB -IoT technologies. The low power consumption of the LPWA module makes this technology particularly suitable for battery-powered IoT devices where the battery is expected to remain in service for 10 years or more without human intervention. LPWA modules are less expensive and provide good coverage in underground and indoor environments. Thanks to these features, LPWA modules are used in smart electricity, water and gas meters, which are often installed underground.
Cellular LPWA technology is considered 5G if the device complies with 3GPP Release 15 or higher. This low-cost, low-power, wide-area, high-capacity technology provides low-speed (145Kbps – 1Mbps) connectivity for sensor data transmission. It is suitable for Massive IoT (or mMTC) use cases such as asset tracking and smart metering.
